Reading another thread got me thinking about the terminology we use such as making off, glanding off etc. but how many of the younger sparks know what "belling out" means?
 
Threaded Rod
No not this pansy Allthread used nowadays, plain rod cut to the required length then threaded at each end by hand with 1/2" bsp dies.

Then Redheads (tradename), ceiling fixings for the above threaded rod.
 
butyl was is heat resistant flex for use in storage heaters, sister flex was the old twin twisted style flex they used in the old "bakelite" pendants a pincer or pincher was a small screw driver we used to make a hole to start of the "black japan" wood screws i think we are talking about a rawlplug tool at the start of the thread.
 
Anyone remember the old " setting block" for conduit, the sparks i first worked with used one if you had a long radius to form

We used to get a block of wood and burn the hole through it from either side with a soldering iron,angled of course
