Reading another thread got me thinking about the terminology we use such as making off, glanding off etc. but how many of the younger sparks know what "belling out" means?

An old boy my partner in crime worked with used the word 'squigglies' to describe the arcing noise made by fuses when replaced in live spurs etc.

Seems an accurate description and we still use it occasionally even now.

On a less technical note, the other two on our gang recently coined the word 'bobfog' as an alternative to fart!

I sure the wrench used by scaffolders is called a Podger if i recall. My neighbour always called it this.

Almost.The first is cutting compound the second is the old connectors you used to get that you twist together.I never did know the proper name for them

I was once mocked by a scaffolder for calling his crew 'just scaffolders' his reply was that they were a team of 'tubular technicians'

i agree about hospital job

been working at a few hospitals since i started.

the guys i worked with kept getting asked on a previous job to slow down because they were working so fast.

a guy on current job took 1 month to do 2 60 way db right next to us.

then there is one of our guys that stripped ,conncted,pulled in more cables and commisioned the bms panel in 2 day and its a lot neater

oh dear. a job title to make themselves sound better. happens a lot.

one of the best I've heard is a 'glass appearance technician' aka a window cleaner
