Terminology

Reading another thread got me thinking about the terminology we use such as making off, glanding off etc. but how many of the younger sparks know what "belling out" means?

Almost.The first is cutting compound the second is the old connectors you used to get that you twist together.I never did know the proper name for them

The old ceramic connectors were called SCREWITS Used in forties N fifties. Tallow was also used as a lubricant for threading conduit when i did my apprenticeship

one of the best I've heard is a 'glass appearance technician' aka a window cleaner

I was threading some tube at home using tallow, caught the dog trying to eat it, I think it's made of pig fat?

knackered/US/farked- all the same. depends on who I'm speaking to as to which one I use!

Always nice when some asks "have you found out why it's not working yet" to be able to say " yeah it's fooked" when they are expecting a technically worded explanation.

I was once mocked by a scaffolder for calling his crew 'just scaffolders' his reply was that they were a team of 'tubular technicians'

haha have you never professed yourself to be something silly like the manipulator of energy or the director or current
