HI
My mother in law wants her fathers bungalow testing as they will be renting out, she has asked me to do the job and not through my boss, the bungalow is a 3 bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom and these rooms are tiny.
At what price region would you charge to test and issue her a eic cert?

free for family ;-) its too much agro to try to charge them ......... if you do it cheap they dont realise and go and tell everyone they know how cheap it was and if you charge them full price they will be offended

are you issuing an EIC or PIR ? if I was charging my mother in law I would bung £20 quid on top towards the greif I have taken over theyears :D

if i was charging my mother in law i would charge 200 quid for all the grief

Theres something very wrong with your pricing regime

Are mother in laws getting nicer ?

They shoild be charged much more than that
Those sort of prices dont reflect anything other than submission to your boss :)

I thought it would be a PIR, but the letting company have asked for a EIC cert

If this was a job not for the mother in law how much would charge then? Dont know to much about prices as th boss normally does them.

an eic is for work done. so if you have done work say on a weekend that is part p and you work for a firm through the week you could have a problem. but if the work is not part p and you are classed as competent yes you can issue a eic. is it the house as a whole that they want testing or a cert for works done?

ah i see just another letting agent talking about things they know nothing of. I had one giving my friend grief about a part p cert before when he had not had any work done. so i rang him to put the record straight  took some doing but got through to him in the end. maybee worth you giving them a quick call to enlighten. good luck with the mother in law :) if you have say 1 2.5mm clip i will let you have another for swaps :) (No i hear you say) worth a try

Cheers phil i told the mother in law to have a word with them to see what they exactly want if they come back kicking and xcreaming i will put them in there place.

Just a quick tought are you a competant person in your own right, registered yourself with one of the scams , I ask because I seeyou work for a company, where usually a qualified supervisor can signs off the electricians work. Just a Point m8 as Working for families is bloody grief.

Cheers for your comments jason yes i know working for families can be a grief, I am a competant person got me 17th edition and been through my 3 year course and nvq a few years ago now.
But no im not with a scam.
May just tell her to get someone else to do it.
How much should she expect if she does get someone else to do it?

Yes of course you are fully competent, no question. However if you are not registered with one of the bodies, NICEIC etc, Then its the Local building inspectors that will have to certify for you, I believe its about £200, depending on area and all that.

Sorry mate forgot it wasnt about works etc, it was just a test of a whole premises. Cost of a periodic (PIR ) is about £150. Its a whole day gone really, about four-five hours for the test and then another hour or more writing up the results. It is my favorite type of work as its all electrical and not a floor board up in sight!
