Hi lads trying to get my head around testing, on insulation resistance testing does a reading of

500 meg and below need to be rewired

But under 2meg ohm needs investigation or think nic say under 5meg ohm needs investigating but over 1meg ohm is a pass cheers

Despite what the NIC says tracking down and rectifying 'low' readings of 1meg plus is very difficult. It is not always viable to trace and improve readings as high as this,in practice only much lower readings are likely to be a practical proposition to trace......IMHO attempting to improve readings of 1meg plus is pointless....and anything approaching 2megs??...well despite what the NIC may suggest i'ts a waste of valuable time.....5megs???? give me strength.
I realise the increasing use of RCD's makes high IR readings desirable but you can go too far.

Edit....talking existing installations here.....a new installation would expect readings way above the minimum.
