can someone answer the question to the rewire thread without an argument breaking out , as this was also my understanding and if its not right i will have to ring the council in the morning as they rewired my house a year ago with no mechanical protection and cables plastered into the walls , i dont want everyone saying this is bad practice or i wouldnt do a job like that just want to know if it complies with the regs and if not what ones , cheers

i've never seen such a basic electrical requirement so feebly debated by those who cant be arsed picking up the OSG.
to be quite honest it puts this forum in a bad light if this is the sort of topic under discussion by "installers" already operating in folks homes.

If you were to connect capping to met that would be an earthed wiring system and remove the need for rcd protection.y/n ?.
(only posting cos the computor told me to )

I think you need to acquaint yourself with UK BS 7671 regs update 2011 before misleading "rough" sparks.

If I wrote the regs I would include a reg saying that a single upfront RCD is not allowed. Simples.

yep...

to encourage some in here without the basic knowledge to just think they are complying by using what would be an upfront RCD is irresponsible to say the least....

Nail thru earthed sheath should trip ocpd but nail thru non earthed sheath would leave nail live.?
