There should always be some slack on cables in the ceiling, that last rose picture was a good job, there should be 6" to a foot of slack above the light in the void, so the rose can be tidy and there is still cable available for the future should it need to be reconnected.

Thanks for the comments, it was really satisfying taking the time to do it as neat as possible. Now all I need to do is find someone who's willing to pay me to spend that long second fixing....

I've had to change a few fixings with bugger all slack in the cables, and vowed to never inflict the torment upon someone else!

Take any job that pays garbage money, just slow your work rate down in proportion to the £/hr! :)

......but we loop at switch and it's very rare I have a spare minute in the shed to try these days.

If your looping in at the switch and not at the rose in your work place, we will accept that. Don't want to exclude you Resu due to the nature of your of your bosses install. Take a photo of both the switch connections and the rose and then submit them.

The thing is mate you'll speed up as you get more experienced. Don't try to force speed or you'll end up all fingers and thumbs and it;ll take you twice as long as it would if you were calm and doing it at a sensible pace.
No one expects you to be massively quick at this stage in your training.

Nice new light for the room.

Will try but maybe not until week after next. First fixing a new building and EICR'ing next week!

This comp will still be open in 2+ weeks time mate. Gives everyone a chance to do the task and get their photos in.

I'm not overly fussed about the competition tbh, wouldn't exactly be fair with mine being completely different. Just gives me a chance to show off ;) lol

I'd love to have a pic to submit, not for the competition (do your sponsors ship to Oz?) but just to join in. Unfortunately the last ceiling rose I saw was in TAFE (college) almost two years ago. Not much call for them as an industrial apprentice.

this is the first ceiling rose ive done in over a year be nice lol
