Sorry i might be getting the wrong end of the stick, i came on here to ask a question and all i get from you a Respected Member is sarcasm. If im wrong sorry but it looks like it from here.

Maybe just me, ...lol!!! The thing is that i'm seeing many times on UK forums the acceptance of gimmick idea's on conventional systems that are not upto scratch, but because there quicker to install requires minimal to no skill, there suddenly better than the conventional system.

In this case, the standard galv threaded conduit system, that's been around longer than me or any other forum member. My point is that i've had main contractors pass me more than a few samples at various times for approval to be used on my projects. None of those push-fit or set screw conduit systems were worth a light, the connections, be they couplings or boxes were at best sloppy fits, they were certainly not rigid or anywhere near conforming to IP 67!!! There may well be yet another system that's recently hit the market, ....until i see the blurb, and physically put 2 bits of conduit together without it wobbling around, then i'll be sticking to my own experience of these conduit systems.

I totally understand your point of view and you`ve given me your opinion, as i can see thats great, but being sarcie about a system you have not used and pointing it at me as a new member surely is`nt the done thing so i think i could have asked the wrong question or jointed the wrong forum......As far as im concerned i ill leave it at that.

If there was any sarcasm's, then it was directed at the systems i have personally have tried and rejected. I'll say again, if there was any merit in push-fit metal conduit systems, then i'm sure it would have been fully developed by the time i entered this industry!!!
Oh, and i didn't actually look to see if you were a new or old member....

Now if as you say, there is now a great new metal push-fit conduit system that's as good, or betters the conventional conduit systems, then please post the link to this new system, so that we can all have a look???

think it's them have completely closed a major A road round here for 15 weeks just to lay a few hundred feet of gas pipe. a good gang could do it in a week.

ÂŁ8.99!!! for a coupling!!! Engineer 54 is right, the threaded conduit system is proven and reliable for continuity/rigidness and longevity, this again is a way for employers to use labourers to do conduit and do it on the cheap, it's the same as pvc conduit and pvc flexible kopex being widely used by mobs because they can get labourers to do it as they can't do proper conduit because they haven't been trained and are cheaper!!!
Also remember Electricalserv said that conduit was a labourers job anyway, so why are we even bothering to argue about a tried and tested methods merits?
A bit like almost all aspects of the electrical industry where every now and again these fancy, unproven methods hit the scene and the mobs rub there hands and salivate at the prospect of penny pinching from the tradesmen so they can coin in a few extra bucks!!!
