Hi Guys, please can someone help with a little problem I have........ please see photos! I would like to add a push switch to bring a motor in to turn over an engine (on a dyno) and I would like to use the contactor pictured but cannot for the life in me make it work , the single breaker appears to be supplying the control voltage and when I push in the contactor manually I get power up to where I will be connecting the motor cable. can anyone shed any light on this please?
racing regards Ash

I had a close one with a DC old cast iron motor ... sent it for repair as it had damaged com' so they were able to skim it and make good when i connected it back up i got a firework show that would put the new year eve to shame ... got them down and they tried blaming me for many reasons until i noticed the brushes didn't line up with the inspection hatches ..... they said it wouldn't make a difference and sent me a bill for over ÂŁ800 quid to sort it out... well until i sent them a detailed explanation of how misaligned brush positions can lead to excessive arcing and com' damage... they never chased that invoice to this day .. they blamed it on an apprentice in shop to which i replied it didn't stop you accusing me on site even wen i had explained the situe.....

Note! no matter how reliable and respectable the company is at soe point they have to train numpties that on occasions gets out into the real world with their cock ups ...

check control voltage is acctually there, check all the stops (estops, limit switches, overload relay) are in closed position check start button's ect close when pushed, disconnect contactor put rated voltage on it to see if it acctuallly pulls in, looking at it, it should be fairly simple. maybe try drawing it out and it might be obvious. failing that maybe you should get someone in who is more experienced with control circuits to avoid causing damage to equipment or yourself. hope that helps

You try that with a 250HP DC motor. I was the idiot that started the drive. All manual switches. You watched the armature current and kept it under 800A, not this time! It tripped the ACB at 1250A. I burnt my legs with the arc flash.

The brushes were off the commutation point. It’s the reason for inter-poles. They move the magnetic commutation point depending on the load.
