Tis the season to be burgled

Hi all
Had a card through the door yesterday from the Police saying that a house near to us has been burgled. They advised that this is the busy period for all those lovely people to help themselves to our hard earned things.

Just thought I would put a quick post up to remind people to check their own security but also ask what the forum would advise to make our homes more secure. Cant really stop them only slow them down

Dogs aren't much of a deterrent to some burglars unless they are trained to eat on command. I know of a few people where poisoned meat was put through the letterbox prior to breaking in, one guy was in his late 70's when his dog was killed this way, he used to walk it everyday on the fields round where I lived at the time, not long after he died having lost his companion.

Things to be aware of if you think someone is in you house when you are upstairs it became common a few years ago that having broken in they would put a pan of water on the stove to boil if you came down and disturbed them you would get the boiling water all over you so it's wise to carry a towel or something to protect yourself when going downstairs
