Discuss To note if sitting 2391 in March in the Electrician Courses : Electrical Quals area at ElectriciansForums.net

Cheers Spark68, I did a 10 week course and put quite a few hours study in so would have been disappointed to fail. Didn't fancy putting myself back through all the study. I did find the exam hard though but had enough time to go back over all the questions which was good.

does anyone know roughly what the pass mark is for the written exam? It would be nice to know how far off passing I am when doing past papers ;)Or put another way, what should I aim for on past papers to be confident of passing the exam? and don't say 100%!!

Hi all

I did the june 10th 2010 ,2391-10, at bury college Business solutions on a 8 week evening course after trying to get on the course 6 months prior
studied every day for over 4 months leading up to the exam upto 12hrs a day. i did this to ensure i knew as much as i could in preperation as i believed from all the many posts and comments of the forum members. When i started the course the course was probably the best and most intense course i have done
I learned GN3 back to front , BS7671, Electricity at work regs, GS38, Osg, Christopher Kitchers guide to inspection and testing and a few other books scaddens and Nic eic got hold of as many sample papers i could from kind forum members
read a few chief examiners reports to find out what areas people were struggling
exam success and me notes from the course
I filled a large A4 ring binder with the work i did at home outside of the course
writing testing procedures in bullet points with and without diagrams also with calculations for the 3 steps for ring final circuits
lighting radials
drawing earth fault loop impedence diagrams for all earthing systems
doing every calculation i could and transposing

I was the only one not working in the industry out of a class of 10 only 4 of us passed both the written and practical first time
and also the chief examiners report stated that it was a national pass rate of 39% the lowest at the time but there have been a few more a little lower since

September last yr after trying for a year got a place at warrington college for the LV3 2330 tonight i took the 301 exam and got a DISTINCTION in 13 mins it was a lot easier than i though it would be and way easier than 2391

what i am trying to say is how badly do you want to learn and understand it fully then thats the amount of effort you have to put in dont go into to fail Prepare all you can and success will be yours

Good Luck to all who are sitting as this will be one of the last few run before it ends . My proudest day when after waiting 13 weeks for results a Brown envelope arrived with the words PASS then had to wait a total of 5 months from exam to get my Certificate no wonder the greys are showing a little LOL

Its only hard if you don't know the answer!!

Thats why you need to put in the study time

Anyone that makes out the 2391-10 "isnt that hard" is talking cobblers.

Its only hard as YOU want it to be

The problem this exam has so much " its rock hard" stigma attached to it is purely because of ill-confident people like yourself, and it certainly has made me question my own ability sometimes, see like this

I hear 2391 is "rock hard" from all sorts of sources

I start the course and start revising only to find the questions easy or reasonable

I then question my own ability and think " well people say its rock hard so my answers must be wrong "

Id love to meet some of these people just to get an idea of who im talking to, you can usually tell within a few seconds if they have anything between their ears or not

To be honest those comments show how little you know about learning styles and what constitutes intelligence. The way the 2391 exam is run makes it much harder for some learning styles compared to others, rewarding those that are good at learning facts and regurgitating them accurately, not those that are good at understanding concepts and applying them in different situations.

No i fully understand now, thats why it really does seperate the "men from the boys" when it comes to being a good electrician

And that really is the top and bottom of it

Its just an old fashion exam that requires you to know the subject and have it in your head not one of the a,b,c or d multi choice that occurs in a lot these days
