Afternoon

Had my annual niceic assessment today (only DI mind)

Showed him a rewire I done few months back- literally had nothing to 'pick at'

only thing he said is when I was un-screwing the mcb to get end to end reading- I just used a normal screw drive- and I should be using a torque one

any of you guys recommend a decent one to get- don't mind spending a bit for something decent...

cheers

your write their pete, I joined niceic in 2005-2013 with elecsa up to present .
with niceic they start nit picking . might join stoma next year
took a bloody long time to join, 8 years. did your cheques bounce?

We had our ECA assessment last year and the accessor was stumped why we torqued our connections but checked them with a standard screw driver. We brought to his attention that their is no way of checking drivers and making sure they are torqued correctly after heavy use. Our old man laughed when we got them, old fashion sparky!

We should put together a box for assessment days which contains all of the assessment needs even if we don't think they are required. BYB, OSG complaints procedures, H+S assessments then we can post it to the next assessment candidate. For a little extra money you can hire @Wilko for the assessment to quote regulations verbatim like a little organ grinders monkey!

Legal bit - @Wilko, I meant every bit of this as full respect to that Egg head brain of yours and nothing negative. I love you man! Hic!

You have to wonder what these assessors are on with comments like that
Why would you use a torque driver when unscrewing a terminal unless you have a real need to check if it was over tightened

With regard to the calibration of torque drivers a lot depends on usage and care or abuse. If you have a torque driver calibrated after 12 months use and it's accuracy is found to be out by 10 or 20% then the last however many jobs are not torqued correctly you could have screws torque at less than the required level, what do you do then

It does start to get a bit silly.
On the bright side, I'm thinking to start a company Tork Busters and we'll test each and every driver every month for just ÂŁ<insert large number> :)
