Two way and intermediate switching

How do you guys do it? Referring to the two pictres below, what are the pro's and cons to the two different methods? I'm trying to settle a minor dispute with a friend

Well it's this or watch big brother, I think I made the right choice... Lol. Not in the near vicinity of the old man, but certainly here and there yeah! The local beer is exceptional as well!
