I would like to know when should you use a un-switch spur or a switch spur for what tasks,
I need to wire a pump so would you an un switch spur or switched spur

Well it all depends. Unswitched spurs would be used alot for fire alarms and burglar alarms ect. Switched spurs are used in places that they can isolate items that might need switched off on a regular basis. Will this pump be switched on and off alot or should it be left on? that will decide what you use.

the pump is a central heating pump I think ( not seen it yet) It just dawned on me today when you carry out tasks I just wondered when should you use what spur, I have checked the regs but there is no defining answer

unswitched would generally be for circuits where you would not want people to switch something off by mistake, say fire alarm etc by brushing past it,or an addition to a ring circuit with an unswitched to supply a radial circuit, again unswitched for the same reason,if you had equiptment in a bathroom outside of zones then again unswitched(although i would site outside bathroom and use flex outlet plate personally),so most of the time switched unless any reason to think that you would not want it switched off by ordinary people.
