I don't want to sound pedantic here but I feel it's important to make a distinction between Voltage Operated Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers (VOELCB) and Current Operated Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers.

The current operated devices are actually what we now know as RCD's but were badged as ELCB's when they were first produced and as long as they pass the usual instrument/functional tests, are fine to remain in service.

The voltage operated (yellow test button and terminal labelled 'frame') need to be replaced.

Agree.... but in this prticular case the OP did state that whatever the device is ....it wasn't working, so it needs replacing. especially as it's installed on a TT system.

am i right in saying though, if you bond at point of entry to property, if gas meter etc is external, you are still infact complying with bs7671

There appears to be a lot of confusion regarding external meters. IMO BS7671 calls for bonding to be within 600mm of the meter or at the point of entry. In other words if the meter is internal (and yes they do still exist) bond within 600mm, or if the meter is external bond at the point of entry. Or at least that's the way I see it.

Hope that helps

I've seen water meters that are under the pavement outside. No way you can get your bond near to them, and no point either.

eaga are the company given money by the government to do heating work on the warmfront scheme.
and then when it goes wrong, as ours did, they don't answer the emergency 24hr.phone and leave you withoiut heating for 2 months.

you could install 1 way rcd dist board for your circuit but there must be at least a 6mm to bonding if tt. this way their exist wiring not your problem
