Just been in local B&Q and heard an assistant telling a customer how and what he needs to add a RCD shower unit to existing consumer unit. Meter tails, Henley block ect. Why do we bother with Part P.?

That's why I use sunday afternoon to drop "info" leaflets on cars in the big orange shed carpark - these info leaflets have my details on and also about PART P with electrics and even offer an incentive for me to carry out the work - COMPLIES WITH BUILDING CONTROL i do offer 15% discount if produces leaflet and have had quite a bit of uptake on it 2hours on a sunday morning to get the return has worked

Saying that speaking to the guy at my local tradepoint branch and those people in store advising are on 20 hours per week at £12 per hour giving advice (must be C&G Qualified) and have at least 6months experience to apply I was asked if I wanted to become a member of their staff to provide advice (I only buy plaster and screws there) you can imagine i rolled around laughing and then asked him to tell me another joke

Murdoch do you want me to post up on the new thread the links to MP's email addresses to make it easyer for members?

Thanks, but I added it to my new thread.

For what its worth I'd be prepared a pay a higher scheme fee if and only if the rules were tighter, the suply routes controlled, and "pub" type contractors were held to account!

forget that I'll create an online petition to no10 if we can get 100'000 signatures on it then it becomes eligible for debate in parliament I'm sure we can get 100'000 signatures on it

what do you say

It still amazing that they sell cu's, rcbo's, 4, 6 and 10mm cable!

In their defence they will say its stock that electricians can buy and that on each info instructions it states "must be carried out by a competent person" but that will be looked over due to these people trying to save money regardless of their families safety.

At the prices that they sell the stuff for though we would be mad to go there

Not condoning the sale of major accessories to unqualified people, but on the same issue of those places selling kit...how often have you been stuck for an electrical widget on a sunday? only places are the big sheds...

In any large retail store if you take to the till a bottle of wine, cigs or a knife the till asks if the tiller has seen proof of age. This can be implemented for the sale of larger electrical goods, eg cu, 4mm cable and above, rcd's, mcb's all the things that a DIYer should not be playing with.

If any of us falls short of an electrical part, we can still buy it from a DIY store but proof of you being an electrician is needed. This is cheap and easy to apply nation wide but the DIY stores won't do it because they would loose out on sales to the Diyers. It should have never gotten to this stage imo.

yeah ,but are the trade bodies made up of proper sparks, if they had SPARKS in THIS FORUM as the trade bodies OUR trade would be more ELITE!!!!!

Made complaint to B&Q they have just called me back asking me to let instore house deal with complaint and not head office. Told them it's going to the top man.
