advice needed
hiya, i have had a full rewire and am seeking advice , the consumer box that was fitted has 2 copper pins showing, the electrician has been promising for 9mnths to come back and blank these off, i still waiting after several attempts,i also dont have the part p cert which he said i would get, i contacted him again today and have given him a week to put this right, he said he would be here next week(again) i said i would report this to the relevant bodies, thing is what are they, hope someone can point me in the right direction. thanks bornfree

Do you know if he was with a part p body like NICEIC or ELECSA? Report him to them as well.

Mind you, the likelyhood of these or your LABC giving a ---- in negligable, I'm afraid. Where abouts are you in the country, I'm sure one kindly spark on here wouldn't mind popping round to stick a couple of blanking plates in your CU.

thankyou sirkit breaker, assuming he does not turn up next week then i definatley have no choice to report, my concern there is that when i have reported this, will the authorities deem it as unsafe condition, i have been told that they can force me to have it all taken out and refitted. would this be the local authority where i live. thanks bornfree

They could do that, if it turns out the guy wasn't qualified they could also prosecute YOU for hiring him. Crazy, no?

This is highly unlikely, though, although they may say you have to get a proper electrician out to fix what needs to be fixed, and issue some sort of a certificate (some councils will allow what's known as a periodic inspection report in cases like this. But as stated, some are absolute gits and try and blame you for it)

i believe he said he was registerd to something like nieec, i assumed because they are electrical contractors they was cocha (still am)

Well you cald go to the NICEIC website and stick his company name in or just do a search of contractors near to you.... if he ain't on the list he ain't gonna be registered with them. Check the ELECSA and NAPIT websites, too.

I feel sorry for this guy ,not the guy that did the work , we all do our jobs properly , when i do a job the certs done the same night and notified the same night , he's probably not tested it , or even regested , as the guys have said check the web sites for his name and report him simple as you should have had a notification from the council , when regestered you have 21 days to notify your work so if its more than that then you should have recieved some thing , dont feel sorry for the guy he knows the rules as we all do

hi thanks for your reply nickblake, i do know that almost all do the work properly, this electrician was actually reccomended to me from the site that recommends tradespeople" they pass on "reputable qualified tradespeople" who are supposed to be 100% legite that is why i thought everything was all above board. i am still hoping it is just a case of laziness or complacency on his part, i have obviously paid in full, i paid in 3 payments direct to his bank so i do have evidence that he carried out this work, i also have all the email correspondence and his quote and, all done by email that i have still got, i have given him untill thursday 21st 0ct to complete this work and put into motion for me to get my part p, he says he can get round this by re-signing the work as completed when he returns to finish the job. is this something that can be done.i have every intention of reporting this if not, i did check websites for his registration but cannot find it only his vat registration. regards bornfree

Check a trade (and other such websites) you only have to look at some of the stupidly low quotes to see it's a fine place for cowboys to reside

Keep us informed how you get on & let us know where you are geographically, someone I'm sure would drop in for you & take a look at the install & fit a couple of blanks.
