Guys are any of you in and or can you recommend a good Union to join.
I just want to think and cover myself as I feel changes could be on the way and I'm not sure how I could be affected

Unfortunately a lot of this was many years ago in the 30's
But how was the nhs
And free universal education anything to do with unions
The government yes but not the unions
The question is what are unions doing now not then !

Looking after their members, that's people pay for, what do think would happen to the NHS if the majority of the staff including Drs belong to a union or professional organization in the case of the Drs.

i think the unions keep the rates low pete its well below what it should be
when i was an apprentice some of my mates went into flat roofing
i was riding a bicycle they had american cars(camaros/ mustangs, ect and fast women

Fast women are no good.

What you want is a nice steady reliable one who will back you to the hilt and always be there for you and on your side.

If you find one with big brown eyes set in a beautiful smiley mischievous face and with a wicked sense of humour you've cracked it!! ;)

and what's wrong with riding a bike to work?? .. I did and I was as fit as a fiddle - which I was often on as well ..

I understand that but these great steps forward what great steps are they making now, none and my first two question s any one please
Are you a TU member? by the sound of you're not, I'm not non union bashing dingle honest, every body has the right not to be, but there is a lot of work (well if you call meetings work) going on and if you're not a member you don't get to know whats being done on behalf of the paying members, where I work the TU membership is not that great, about 20% but with a total workforce of around 1200, probably not that bad, the problem there are, in places with a large workforce, like the place I work at the non members still get the benefits the members get, unfair? yes, but I guess that's life, I,m not a member any more solely because I work part time and nearing the time when I say stuff it. My union has negotiated pay, A/L entitlements, Allowances, lots of thing to numerous to mention, I'll apologize now if I have it wrong and you are in fact a TU member, you never know when you will need help

I am self employed so a union would do me no good
I know the news wants the big bad stories so we all hear about the strikes over a cup or tea etc but it annoys me when people do wrong and the union backs them !
As I said n h s and free education was not unions ( I am asking for proof that it was )
And your saying lots of members strong unions but it seems it's strong unions that are the ones that have strikes over nothing !
And block voting ? Is very wrong

Well the members vote to strike in the majority or it doesn't go ahead. I am a member of the Unite union and im self employed.....Being a member has saved me about ÂŁ1000 this year and ÂŁ600 ish two years ago. All through the free C & G courses that the glasgow branch of unite run. IEE regs/ Testing and inspection all free including course material (Regs book ect.) All food and drink provided too.....Like I say it has saved me a considerable amount. I am also a union member because of the work that they do and I support...like exposing blacklisting and blatant H & S breaches. Everyone moans about H & S gone mad....and yet we loose a worker per week in the construction industry....Only the unions fight this trend...no other bugger bothers.
You also point out about unions sticking up for people who "do wrong". Well we have a right to a fair hearing in this country....And it is unions who try to ensure this to happen correctly. Again if your on your own working for a firm and find yourself victimised and sacked..if your not a union member you now have to cough up your tribunal fees...union members tend to have these covered. It's all about the right to a fair hearing/trial. If an employer finds himself facing a payout then im afraid he/they have not followed the law...A law that usually is very much pro employer.

Again "im s/e" what can the union do for me ? It's not really about that and more about standing together shoulder to shoulder in order to protect the ordinary man against the excesses of the state/employers/elite/top 5% ect ect ect. I think we would have bugger all of what we "enjoy" today if it were not for collective action by unions and the like.

Well said that man

Well put indeed
But I have 2 friends working in strong union areas and the stories they say of thieving barstewards who get off because of the union or the other on the railways of absolutely useless twits who can't be sacked because of the union

And I truly do not believe the union would help a one man band but a company that has lots of members then they would help

I’m an EX EETPU convenor. I got out when the amalgamation with the AEU was announced 25 years ago. Education went out the window as we had to bail out the ----ers in the AEU and the union colleges suffered. I’ve not missed then ever since. I’ll fight my own corner, and win!

All they’re interested in now is flogging insurance

I'm with Unite. I get a glossy magazine every now and again telling me how **** the conservative party is. I don't even open it now it goes straight in the bin. I don't think a union should be connected to any political party.
