Hi all, had an argument with a guy at work today just wanted your take on thing. I said that connection behind a wall light must be placed within an en-closer like a back box or something similar and can not be block connectors within a wall which you see a lot of? Agree with me not.

Thanks

I like use architrave boxes behind the fitting or bring the cable into the fitting itself. Just shoving the connectors into the wall seems very DIY

I don't see that a backbox is going to bring much to the party so to speak; presumably the connector block will only be accessible when the wall light is unscrewed from the wall, and many wall lights are designed with the back open to the wall.
In a commercial environment where the wall light is designed to be fixed to an enclosure such as a conduit box then yes I would, but IMO that falls under following manufacturer's instructions, which goes without saying.

If first fixing for wall lights and with a good idea of whether the fittings will cover a horizontal or vertical architrave box then I will fit an architrave box for the connections.
If fitting them to an existing position or a rewire/addition to an existing then the plaster is suitably non combustible to form the back of the enclosure for the connections.

Are we talking about a stud wall with the connections pushed back into the stud work, or a solid wall with the connections between the light fitting and the wall itself?

The light fittings are on a brick wall and the wall light doesn't allow you to terminated within the fitting. Pick this up on a EICR, and report the fault Reg 526.5, just wanted to see what you think?

Thanks :)
