Hi all, First fixed refurbished kitchen in old property, stripped out old wiring, ran in new ring main to kitchen and cooker circuit. Really awkward cable runs due to new steel RSJ across width of kitchen, and no access from 2nd floor. All cables run in 17th edition 'safe zones' , problem comes from kitchen fitters (bless um) drilling 150mm core hole for extractor hose within 150mm from ceiling! Yep, straight through cables with 6" core drill ! Customer blaming me for ,'because you knew there was an extractor going there' Me explaining that cables had to be run there and showing safe zone diagram to customer and kitchen fitter. Result...kitchen fitters arent electricians and we as sparkys have to make sure (although our job is hard enough as it is) that other trades are aware of safe zones!

True mate but the plumber, dry liner, brick layer on site today had no idea and as said before two last KF's I have met (and to be fair they were proper - not just howdens bolt together blokes) had no idea.
Also plasterer now is not a David fan as i used the top 6in and he says his scratch coat won't stick.
"lets see how good you are then mucker" :)

lol..... Very funny.....don't say it sits on the lower RHS of each post because its only appears on the occasional post.

It's on every post when you wave your mouse over it!

Well believe it or not that's what I've been doing for the last few weeks and nothing happened. So now it has suddenly appeared. I can only think that part of my disciplinary 'I SHALL NOT SWEAR ON THIS FORUM' was to prohibit the use of the 'likes/share/unlike'

......Now its disappeared again !

My ''Link'' comment was tongue in cheek!! lol!!!

What i've noticed myself, is that IF you have just posted on that particular thread, the ''Like'' button doesn't work, if you remain on thread, you have to refresh the page, ....and back it comes... Try it, the next time it happens to you...

Nice one - a bit of E45, E54 :) ....... Page refresh seems to do the trick ! Now I'm looking for the emoticons ! :(

Surely if the OPs kitchen fitter "aquaintances" know sod all about electrics, they should be at least running a cable detector over the surface before drilling a wacking great hole?!

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned yet the simple fact that if they're core drilling 150mm up tight to the ceiling, then who knows what else they also might be destroying? Joist plates, hangers, bearers........ Zones aren't just for cables!!

Imagine if they had gone through a buried gas pipe. I once spotted one at the last minute when I installing a rise and fall worktop in a disabled property. All that was visibl was a bung type nut exposed in the wall, that was enough for me but one of the other chaps reckoned it was dead so undid it - silly plonker soon found himself rushing to do it up again lol

surely incompetence is a mandatory requirement for qualifying as a kitchen fitter?

I see everyone is quick to slag kitchen fitters off and tar them all with the same brush.ive been a kitchen fitter for 18 years and am also a fully qualified electrician and work stringently to the regs whatever I do.only last week,i saw a niceic registered contractor submit an installation certificate for electrical work in a property which he had never even been to or done any electrical work at just so he could get payed off the kitchen company who did the project, there are bad eggs in every trade not just kitchen fitting.
