Hi

Today I found a horrible mess of wiring for the heating/hot water under the box my megaflo is on. Here are some pictures.

My question is should I sort it out or leave it? Obviously it does work, but it is messy and a few cables have scorch marks from touching the hot pipes.
If I go ahead and sort it out, I'll probably put it outside the box the megaflo is on, but this would mean extending the three 3core+e cables.
What is the best way to extend these cables?
The flex cables would not need extending.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

or could just wrap the box up in 2 layers of metallic duct tape. if there's a poor connection inside, this will keep water out and stop the electricity escaping.

It's not good having a big connection box like that with no strain relief on the cables. Once someone moves it out of the way to clean the Magna flow there's a lot of strain on the connections inside, especially with most of them being solid core cable.
It should be either fixed to the wall and the cables clipped (probably not enough room), or replaced with something with strain relief for the cables.
As above, no point going to the extremes of making it IP rated.

Can't you just leave it where it is and tidy it up? Or maybe locate it in a position where cable extension is not required?
I'm not a personal fan of extending cables unless its absolutely necessary.

If you had the boiler installed a few months ago, call the plumber back to sort out the mess he left behind, he must have gone in the wiring centre when installing your new boiler. If he refuses or claims it is ok, you are within your rights to get gas safe out who will do a free inspection of the work and they will make a friendly call to the plumber to pop back and tidy it up.
