I have to confess to only having heard the headlines but surely enough is enough from those people in Europe

surely someone who is found guilty of murdering their whole family should forfeit their human rights:banghead:

Maybe you should read the reports properly before you make a knee jerk reaction mate, yes the ECHR has said it shouldn't happen but it also said that there is no prospect of the likes of Jeremy Bamber getting out at all

Apart from all the stupidity that gets laid at the door of human rights legislation (which is usually massively exaggerated by certain sections of the press) it also protects the likes of you and me against the government and their flagrant violations of laws they made.
A lot of it was drawn up in the late 1940s by the likes of Churchill and was intended for just that purpose, if a government makes a bad law a judge still has to uphold it no matter what toys a politician may throw out of the pram.

why should it not happen- if a court decides a criminal is so heinous that they should never be allowed back into society then that's that, there has to be a point when people so inhumane loose their human rights, I obviously only get the media slanted reports but it appears to me that people in prison are getting a little more humanity than they may deserve

Because the rehabilitation of offenders act says something contrary to whole life sentences. The sensible alternative is to sentence someone like this to 99 years, this would satisfy the requirement for someone to be given a potential release date and, lets be fair, if they're still available for release after 99 years then fair play let em go. There'll not be many of them getting out will there?

That's far too sensible Trev.

What we need is more Geordies in Government .... :)

Yeah it presses a lot of people's buttons, including mine at times but what protects the ordinary person from what the likes of Theresa May want to do? That's right mate, HR legislation.
For example, if she suddenly decided that you were an enemy of the state and should disappear. What would stop her doing that? The fact is that governments do not like courts because courts make them toe the line that they themselves have drawn so any decision that goes against them gets trotted out in speeches as a ridiculous over use of something which is ridiculous. What they never say is "ok M'lud, you got us bang to rights and we're out of order"

Check out the planned updates to the ASBO legislation currently working their way through. The way it's phrased if someone "in authority" - police, council official, traffic warden, lollipop lady, etc - thinks you're causing a nuisance or objects to what you're doing, BANG, you've been ASBO'd, even if what you've done wasn't illegal. So stop sniffing loudly, don't sing out of tune, you name it ....

well thats hardly a breach of his `human rights` is it...

if i had my way we would be doin away with these types...why should they be a drain on society by housing them in prisons

and as far as prison is concerned....it would be back to the victorian age....
so that means no sky TV, no games of pool/snooker, definately no vote, no fancy extras....

and forget about `open prisons`...whatever the hell thats supposed to be....for cheating, thieving MPs...
they would be thrown in a dungeon to think about how they stole from the public...every bloody one of em...
