Hout bay is just around the coast from where I stay in Noordhoek. It's a stunning area to live in. I wouldn't live in Durban or JHB for all the tea in China, I hate going up there for a few days at a time on business, also mostly on the mines.
Small world.......

I was there this morning in the mountains above Hout Bay repairing a weather station.
Excellent.
Beautiful part of the country.
Beautiful country in fact.

I did the drive from Jo'burg to the Cape in a day. About 1600 klicks as I recall.
Nice car, much younger then and straight roads with almost no traffic but I was still bloody knackered at the end. The drive through the Great Karoo was awesome and endless. Yet you'd see the odd person walking around. From where to where?

Just one of those things things/sights that makes a lasting thing that sticks in your mind.
I suppose that I've been lucky, and lumbered, with travelling quite a bit to different places, usually on business.
Another is the Taroko Gorge - Taiwan east-west highway. The road is carved into the side of cliffs. And precariously close to the edge.
This gives a little bit of an impression of the road.

But I think the place that most stuck with me was the Sahara desert.
The immense emptiness. It is hard to comprehend. Or describe. It just got to me.

I'd like to go back - and maybe I will before I hang up my boots.

im sure ive seen that one on worlds deadliest roads

I found the forum by accident while googling something. I've had a few years away from regular work as I've been looking after my missus who had a bad accident and needed almost constant care for what seemed like a lifetime. We moved to dorset and she's much better now so l took my 2382-12 and started looking for work. I read the forum trying to get myself up to speed on stuff but it doesn't make any difference round here because it seems that I'm too old to be of any use to anyone.
Judging by the standard of work of some of the electrical firms around here a bit of experience wouldn't go amiss. So I'm doing my own thing.
I'm on the forum most days and love the banter.

I think that people want an older spark rather than some of the brash go getters that are around you should advertise locally in a small way slowhand

That's what I'm doing, put my ad in the local papers and got cards printed up etc.
Things are a little slow ( No pun intended) at the moment but l believe that word of mouth and quality reasonably priced work is the best form of advertising there is.
Good advice mate, cheers.

I do have cards but never give them out . I don't think I have ever got a job from giving a card ,recommendations are the best

Just keep your spirits up its a bit slow everywhere unless your doing big contracts

I joined for the learning , found the site from a search and I genuinely think its made me a better spark than I would have been otherwise as I was working with a lot of "know it all know nothings"
this is mainly due to the more experienced guys here who inspired me with their knowledge to try to be more like them! I know I owe a
"Big thank you to them all!"
Re guys like slowhand it always makes me mad that nowadays guys like this are sent to the reservation instead of being used as an investment tool by having the new lads trained by them making use of the knowledge and skills they have!
If they did we wouldn't have half the stupid posts etc!
Such a waste!

I had cards - postcard size - listing all the types of work I could do and I posted them through all the doors on whichever street I was working in.

It didn't cost much and did bring some work in.
