Hi all, just after a bit of advice.
I have completed 2330 level 2&3 & 17 th edition and hopefully 2395 soon and then save for 2394. Without registering with NICEIC ect, what can I actually do domestic installation wise. I know it has to be part P passed, so is it just the fact of informing LBC and the client having to pay the inspection fee, do they test or is that down to me and they check. I hope I'm not going to be shot to pieces by the more experienced on here for asking.

I would contact the labc and get there prices from them first, and just factor that in to your costs, don't let the customer do it they might get scared, but I'm pretty sure if it anything like mine , they keep telling me they aren't qualified to inspect it an to get a part p guy in

Thanks chrish, is it the same whatever work is carried out, ie minor works ect. I don't want to be doing anything illegal, it's just a nightmare finding out all the answers. I would prefer to work with a more experienced guy, but as you all know its very hard to find work with someone, so I'm biting the bullet, getting the tools and taking on small jobs that come my way. Seems to be the only way.

You need to know which work is notifiable to building control, this is explained in Approved Document P from the planning portal.
Minor works not in a "Special Location" do not need to be notified to building control (but still need to comply with the building regulations) so would be independent of your registration with a self certification scheme.
If you are lucky and can prove you are competent to inspect and test then some LAs will give a discounted cost for their building regulations completion.
If you are including the BC notification cost in your work you will find that you are noncompetitive since ti could be well over ÂŁ100, which would be hard to account for if you were installing an extra socket in a kitchen!

Note that the Part P notifiable requirements are changing in April and this will make things easier for you if you are not registered with a self certification scheme.

Hi mate don't mean to hi jack the thread how will it make it easier as I am in a similar position?

From April 2013 work consisting of new circuits, CU changes, or extensions/alterations to circuits: in the zones of a bathroom or in a room containing a swimming pool or sauna heater will be the only notifiable work.
This means that alterations and extensions in kitchens, garden power, PV, UFH, ELV lighting and outside the bathroom zones will be no longer notifiable and therefore expand the range of work you can do without being registered with a scheme.
