Meters had a backstop to prevent reverse running some 20 years ago. Meter will not run backwards, and may actually alarm if attempted reverse running as part of tamper warning

Last three installs this week, all meters running backwards, customers over the moon (for a little while :) )

got videos's on my phone i show people just to try and convince them that pv works! "no honestly it is going backwards" !!

I've posted elsewhere, knowingly allow your meter to trun backward is fraud, and the customer is open to prosecution.

However, when they apply for the FiTs, the MPAN details will show the FiT provider with details of the existing installed meter, they notify the current electricity provider to that MPAN, therefore they know if it is one of the ones that COULD be going backwards, so the customer could argue (for a short time) that they did what they thought they had to do, and that the Electricity Company should have done soemthing about it. It doesn't usuallt take very long for the meters to get changed around here!

As far as the non FiTs systems promoted on the website, he is liable to proescution on the charge of "incitement to defraud"

So what out bigbob1, Big Brother IS watching you :)

Ok let's give him benefit of doubt (for 30 sec's :) and help say no to nuclear!

0.2kw system in Brighton
(I'll help him out location wise)
optimally positioned
(this time out of the shade)
and pitched Optimally
(probably more by luck than judgement)
we will also give him the benefit of efficiency because he will of course have chosen the inverter and panel for best fit for power production.
We'll be generous and say 950kwh/Kwp so:

0.2x950 = 190kwh/Yr

Fortunately for us we don't have the feed in tariff to worry about!
So a simple calculation and I'll be generous again and say they haven't been paying attention to the Electric bills and they are paying 16p/kwh so:

190x0.16p=ÂŁ30.40/Yr

I'll ignore the Rpi issues and fuel price increases because frankly I can't be bothered so on a straight Roi that's

ÂŁ795/30.40=26.15yr's to get your money back.

Don't forget tho you'll have to replace the inverter every 18months
(and thats not included in the costs)
as it was only supposed to power a laptop from a car battery!!!

I know mate. If i'm not sure of somthing i have no problems asking. I talked to the guy at UK power networks about meters going backwards and he went on and on about fraud. But the meter belongs to the supplier not to the customer, so registering the meter with UKPN for g83 and then registering with fits, deals with it. Also you try and get anyone other than SSE out to change a meter to a buyback meter, impossible they won't do it. SSE have been paid already to roll out the smart meters, no other company will go near re placing the meter, well thats what i found. I've not come across a meter yet with the seal cut on it luckily!

Does that device automatically switch off with a power cut?

As for the meter, I think it would be incredibly difficult for a supplier to charge anyone with fraud if an electric meter went backwards. The meter is the property of the supplier, not the customer - it is THEIR responsibility.

Imagine a site where power was running all the time - how would you know if the meter could run backwards?

Notify by G83 and leave it up to the supplier.

I would like someone to link the website that has the dodgy plug in system, so i can see what everyone is on about please :)

i'd say it's all highly illegal to be honest, office of fair trading would have a field day with the mis leading information on the web site mmmmmm sent :)
