What do you need to pat test ?

I've never done pat testing and always told customers that I don't offer the service. But just reacently I've had a lot of people asking if I offer the service.

This has got me thinking what do you need to carry out testing ?

I know you need a pat tester that's a given but I'm just wondering what else is required.

Do you need the city and guilds pat testing qualification ?

Then is it a case of logging the appliance on a spread sheet


Just got my cogs turning and wondering what's involved ?

You can do it with a MFT if you wish, not hard to make up the plug adapters you need.

I doubt you need the qual, just follow the code of practice.

Obviously you need to be competent. Are you?

Well I've got 2391 and full apprenticeship .

Just never ever done any pat testing

Seaward do a free booklet,called "PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING,A PRACTICAL GUIDE" try downloading from www.seaward.co.uk.This has lots of tips and info in it.

A couple of hours to learn how to stick stickers on!!!!

Seriously PAT or ISEEI&T as it should be called, should be really easy for a spark to pick up without doing the 2377 most of it (dare I say it) is common sense

I quite often give it a pat test.
Trouble is it the test doesn't give consistent results.
It sometimes pats me back - with its claws......

That's the one works just bought..gaffer had me reading the instructions so I knew how too use it..must say I learn better doing it then just reading about it..sure I fell asleep a couple of times ha ha jk

you should look on amazon or ebay mate, costs under £10 for 1000 stickers

And I was told all you needed was a roll of stickers and a pen? The quicker you sticker everything the more the boss makes

Some days on and the cat pat test is yielding slightly more consistent results.
The little barstard has scratched me just the once in the past few days. He was looking up at the window in my office and normally just leaps on to the window ledge with the expectation that I will open the window. He looked a bit indecisive so, at great personal peril, I picked the little bagger up and set him there. I opened the window and he sat half in and half out.

Night time and a chill wind. I gave him a gentle little pat test to encourage him to go one way or the other so that I could close the window. He did. And rewarded me with a pat test on the back of my hand as he left. Just a couple of inches and not a lot of bleeding.

Yet we put up with it.
