I use the makita lxt range 18v 3.0ah fantastic gear. Bought the makita multicutter last week takes the same batteries as the rest it's brilliant! Don't think ill stray away from makita now I've found it!
 
Makita for me too....batteries are great and the vast range of bodies they make such as cordless grinder, impact driver, circular saw, sds etc etc also have the 10.8v makita which is really useful as others have said for working at height and fits in your pocket easily

I would say it is more about the bits than the torque of the drill. I use high quality Fisch auger bits for drilling out mortices and peg holes...
