Hi guys,

Here's an interesting one for you, if you look at the attachment on this post from the IET they define a domestic installer as " not an electrician "

If you go to the niceic website and click the 'FIND ELECTRICIAN' tab and select 'ALL ELECTRICAL WORK' it will display various domestic installers and approved contractors in your local area.

So is the domestic installer an ELECTRICIAN?

According to the people who write the national safety standards apparently this is not the case.......

Yet the guys who regulate them for crucial safety reasons seem to know otherwise.....

So who is right?

The IET

or

NICEIC

Being an electrician is no diferent to being a mechanic (especially heavy duty). A couple of the best guys I had working for me had no formal training, but were gifted in what they did, they could visualise problems and make prompt and safe repairs. I had one highly trained guy who managed to fit brake pads into a 13T armoured vehicle capable of doing 40mph the wrong way round. The design of the system should not allowed this to happen , but he did it, turning a relatively safe vehicle into a killing machine. Its not so much the knowledge, but the application of it, and Ive seen too many trained and highly qualified people stick their heads up their backsides and blame others for their lack of training. I have also found the eleitist attitude shown by some here, can breed complacency and a failing to keep up with current standards and methods. With every trade, there is good and bad, and I take pride in being in the top 10% of domestic installers because I apply myself to learn, continually improve and above all do the job right.

well according to my apprenticeship with GEC and my courses and training I am supposed to be an electrician and for many years worked for the government on stuff i cannot tell you about but is quite complex and needs the apllication of a little thought
also for many years I managed the maintenance both electrical and mechanical of a joinery shop and sawmill and thats 3 phase
plsu intruder alarms fire alarms analogue and digital
oh and for the last few weeks I have been touring Italy on my Motorcycle and managed to converse in reasonable italian in places where you never see the english holidaymaker and even fix the guzzi when it broke down near bologna
so I must be half intelligent
mi dispiace non sono de quie
but at my age and being a grandfather and also having built 2 sailing boats by hands from drawings I dont worry so much, next week I am building a summerhouse for a client ok thats not a sparkies jobs but I have a 6 months waiting list and dont advertise
one funny thing I did notice after riding 3500 miles around france switzerland and italy all Audi drivers go faster than any one else
is this significant
do they build in mind control to the dashboard
and if you liek contact sports try riding through rome and getting shoved out of the way by a 70 year old granny on a vespa saying Fa Vafanculo which to the untrained ear sounds like a compliment but tis not
hey I digress
oh and I am also a highly paid film star along george clooneys lines
well actually thats not true I had a bit part in a new TV series called |Woolwich but I dont like to brag about how many attractive young ladies fought over riding on my bike
heres a pic to cheer you up

i hope that was tongue in cheek man..

I think that maybe he is making a comment about stan smith saying I am a cowboy and would not let me near any of his family
as mr smith does not know me thats a trifle unfair to say the least but maybe he has had a bad day
I dont get upset easily and have had to work with loudmouth aggressive bullies for many years so it goes over my head
having my own family and a range fo close friends leaves me not worried in the slightest
thats why I can take off for 2 weeks solo on a motorcycle with no set agenda and tour places without worrying you need confidence for that
hey ho
frankly I wont bother with this forum again I shall remove my nake from it
and I do mr smith have formal qualifacations including 14th 15th 16th 17th ed plus many others and 38 years of experience and judgement

Right, this stops now.

Domestic Installers have as much right as anyone else to use this forum without the fear of being harrassed & harranged by johnny come lately's that think they rule the world.

This was, is & always will be as long as I have a hole in my arse a friendly & helpful forum for everyone associated with the electrical industry to come and talk about any aspect of it they wish.

If no-one has anything useful to add to a thread, dont bother adding anything.

Anyone with any problems with this can contact the administrator directly.

Thank you

Thread closed.

Just to add to this..

Some of you who have abused members might just find yourselves on a last warning or even a temporary Ban and if you repeat this childish behaviour then maybe you will find your account fully removed.

As above, we will not stand for this blatant bully boy approach to other members.. this is not a clicky forum for timeserved guys, if you do not like to give advice etc to those wanting to better themselves the correct way then do not use the forum.. simple as that but what we will say is that abuse/swearing etc will not be tolerated and accounts will be removed till this is under control once again..
