If he gets in I’m going to create a bigger stink than last time.
Can I ask why me getting in the trainee section would lead you to creating a stink ? BTW I am not going to apply as "mentor"sounds too much like I would need to take someone under my wing and commit to guiding them......too much like a commitment for my liking lol

Hello I am not very good at maths and was wondering what kind of maths do electricians use everyday?

1 pint of lager costs ÂŁ2.50, therefore 4 pints cost ÂŁ10. It is cheaper to buy one Bacon and sausage sandwich at ÂŁ2.60, than one bacon sandwich and one sausage sandwich at ÂŁ2.20 each. This means that a bread roll cost about ÂŁ1.80. This is the equation; 2 x 2.20 - 2.60 = 1.80.

The Daily Star and 20 Lambert and Butler costs on average ÂŁ8.00, but at Morrisons you can save 20p on the smokes, therefore Morrisons charge less than average.

And then theres volts drop and resistances in parallel, but you will use the above maths more than these anyway.

Cheers...............Howard

Lee, go for it
Dont be put off, you do not need to be Einstein or a rocket scientist to get into the industry, a good attitude, hard work, willingness to learn are the best attributes, and finally good workmanship is a must have skill, too much 'it will do' attitude has got into the industry and is destroying it, there are still very good lads out there who are proud of the job they do and will not do 'shoddy' work for the sake of it.
I have seen too many youngsters come into the industry with all the top marks in maths, sciences etc....but could not drill a 6mm hole in a brick wall.
The youngster who can use his hands and his brain at the same time is the ideal apprentice / trainee, so stick at it and you will get what you wish for.

Good luck.

Maths is just one part of this game, to do anything meaningful you need the theory behind the “sums” you’re doing.

Too many just follow what they’re told be it right or wrong without question.
If anyone wants to wind me up just answer a question with “that’s what it says in the regs”.
The regs are fallible and don’t cover every situation which his where Electrical Trainee’s come unstuck, they don’t know the background theory and so can’t think around an unusual situation.

Which probably accounts for 75% of the questions on here.

is no one taught that everything is biased, you need facts from different sources

history books are notorious for this, afterall history is written by the victor because often in battle the loser cannot question it because there dead.

part of the problem is that youngsters aren't taught basic mental arithmetic, some even needing the use of a calculator to work out 5 x In for a MCB. calculators are great for things like working out the adiabatic in 1 swift calculation, but like everything else these days, technology breeds laziness. e.g. automatic washing machines, relegating the good old mangle to a garden feature ( except in geordieland where they are a feature of every modern kitchen).

Last time I went to geordieland, it was automatic washing machines that were the garden features.
