Just wanted to know what the attached might be. Its under my stairs and switched off but i dont know what it actually is. Any thoughts?

A small consumer unit with no cover, that needs looking at to see if it is live.

It's a switched fuse unit with the cover missing and potentially exposed live parts which could be an electric shock hazard. You should call a local electrician to turn up and make sure this is safe.

OP; Is it actually off? The switch is in the on position. DON'T use your finger to test.

Has it possibly been a supply for a defunct central hot air heating system? 30A fuse but only 2.5mm cable

Hi,
You do need to get an electrican to look at that pronto. I can see evidence of severe overheating.
