As an Englishman first and a Brit second married to a Scot first and a Brit 2nd all I can say is that our daughters have no idea who they are.
My wifes family are die hard Scot, my wifes uncle was David Gray who played football for Scotland just after the war, and her dad was a Scottish junior international Stuart Gray, my wife ran and long jumped for the Scottish Juniors, so national pride is big with them.
They would love a more independant Scotland but not one of them wants a totally dissolved one. They all believe that the local election results would not be repeated in a general election.
Personally I think we should celebrate our differences in these small islands, it's taken us thousands of years of bloodshed and not too little of that is the fault of us English. IMO I think United Kingdom will be a poorer place without unity, but alas I think devolution will happen, perhaps not in my life thankfully.
