what pat tester?

I am thinkign of getting a pat tester for incidental testing ie my own stuff and some customer stuff. not as my main line of work and was wondering what you recommend.

I looked at this cheapie
First Stop Safety BattPAT Tester Kit 1 | PAT Testers and PAT Testing Equipment

bit worried that it may not be up to living in a van etc etc.

I know the unit very well. It is a decent PAT tester and it is a fairly robust unit. I won't give you any readings but simply a Pass/Fail information. Technically it is therefore an Appliance Checker rather than a PAT Tester.

It all depends on the type of equipment and the quantity you'll be testing. Obviously if you are doing loads of testing and it's your mainline of work then a downloadable tester will save you loads of time in the long run.

It is safe to use on IT equipment (200mA Continuity test & Selectable insulation test 250/500V)

Hi Test-Meter,

Am also looking for a tester and was checking out the Megger 320, just wondered if you guys had had a chance to take one of these out the box and try it out??

Hi Kentster,
Yes I have, the Megger PAT320 has being out a bit longer than the 400 series and I really like it. One of the best features is that you can unplug the tester and move between tests (for about 5 minutes) and rather than waiting for the tester to "boot up" it instantly goes back to the last screen you were on!

All the convenience of a battery powered tester with High current earth bond testing..... genius!

Another cool feature is that the relays are “continually rated” meaning that they don’t overheat with loads of testing.
