I wouldn't say that my cat is like me... The only similarity me and my cat have is that we are both whingy little farts when we are hungry...
My little W. Axl Rose the cat bites my hand and nose when he's hungry. My little Slash the cat pokes me on the back of the neck or back with his fingernail when he wants attention in the middle of the night.

I thought I’d posted on this thread ages ago, but can find it…. So here goes.
Running backwards from present day.

Current canine, Bridie ( as in Forfar) as seen on my profile.
[ElectriciansForums.net] What pets do you have, and what pets have you had?

One rabbit, only recently down from two. Both named after my wife’s grandmothers.
One Guinea pig

Previous.
Another 2 guineas, a hamster, named Badger.
Decker the dog, 5 budgies in total over the years, another hamster, Chewie and 3 goldfish, bubbles, blossom and buttercup. Named by our eldest daughter who was 4 at the time.

A Black Pug owns me as her pet.

I've worded it like that because from the moment she was born, most of her marbles are missing.
She wont be trained, wont be told and carries on each and every day like she owns the planet.

Up to 2 months ago we would walk around the Church, then on the day of that Royal king thing, the side door of the church was open, before I could do anything she had shot through the door and a commotion began from within.
I stuck my head through the door and was horrified to see her jumping over peoples laps as they sat on their pews.
She ran up and down at least 60 peoples laps until I unstuck my head out of the door and ran away.

I stood under a tree way back from the church, with vision of the side door and the main door.
127 seconds of standing there, because all I could do was count. She appeared out of the front doors with 5 people in toe.

A few weeks later she did the exact same thing, but this time at a funeral. Luckily the vicar caught her in time, she must of run to him first because he is was at the front of the congregation, so this side door was behind him.

But what impressed me was the vicars speed, he's not exactly built like a ninja, but he had the moves of Bruce Lee and plucked her from the ground and up into the air.

We don't walk down the church anymore.

Haha. Well there you go.

I think maybe I am like my dog. Apparently I look sleepy most the time and I wolf down food at the speed of light.

I was going to say something about where my dog likes to lick...but I suspect that is inappropriate for a professional forum like this.

update on our menagerie. in addition to the 6 females (5 bred by us, 1 a rescue) we have 2 survivors of a litter of 3; 1 had a fatal reaction to vaccination) now 10 weeks old and ready to go to new homes, but the current financial squeeze is making it ditfficult to find a buyer with the readies.

Current count is three rescues - two cats and nearly 10st of German Shepherd. All taken on over lockdown, one of the cats was RSPCA, another was handed in to a local vets as an abandoned kitten about two weeks old - fitted in the palm of my hand and had me up all round the clock doing 2hr bottle feeds! He's now a 6kg bruiser of a skilled hunter. German Shepherd was also RSPCA, from what we can figure out had been locked up in a garage and neglected for the first five years of his life, very triggered and un-socialised. He's now a huge teddy bear with me and we can rough play like lunatics having gained trust..... but strangers beware!

I took in a German Shepherd many years back as her owner was planning to send her to the USPCA. Gaining her trustng was no problem, but took about a year to get rid of her bad habits and fully trust her. I loved all the dogs I've had equally, but there's something special about German Shepherds - highly intelligent, exceptionally loyal and scare the living sh*t out of arrivals in the yard by just standing still.

My father eventually took her as I'd only planned keeping her a few weeks, to save her from being put down. He had many dogs over the years, but was in bits when she eventually had to be put down due to health issues. I don't think he'd ever fully appreciated the bond between man and dog - the others were pets, whereas she was a companion.

Current mutt is 14 years old, and beginning to fall about a bit at the rear end, so we're beginning to realise he won't last forever. He fell down the stairs just after Christmas, so now there's a plywood gate blocking them off.
Thought his time was up a couple of months ago, when we found weeping tumours around his rear. Took him on what we expected to be a one way trip to the vet, but it turned out the tumours were benign and operable, so one arm and a leg later (ours), he's back as he was again, although looking ridiculous with a bald rear end and tail in contrast to the rest of his scruffy long coat.
Over two years later, and he's still going. Hardly a tooth in his mouth and wobbles all over the place when he eventually struggles to his feet. Half blind and half deaf (although he can always hear me put my cutlery down on the plate at the end of a meal), but still seems to be enjoying life.

Sitting here writing this with tears in my eyes.
My poor dog, Max, is just short of 17 years old, and has become more and more wobbly on his legs, but has always managed to struggle to his feet and get around, following my wife everywhere she goes that he can . That was until last Monday afternoon, when we realised that he'd been in his bed ever since he'd ventured outside for five minutes earlier that day. we found that he could no longer stand, or even sit up, and he's been lying on his side, on a quilt, on the carpet, with his head on a pillow ever since.
He doesn't appear to be in any pain, will happily eat any biscuits, chicken or ham that you hold close to his mouth, but flatly refuses to drink any water, even moving his head away if I wet my finger and brush it against his lips.
I suspect that, in his doggy mind, he's decided that it's time to go, and soon I expect that he will drift into unconsciousness, from which he'll never wake, and finally pass away a day or so later.
There's a large clump of ornamental grass at the top of the garden, that he's always undertaken to keep well watered, so I'll soon be up there with my little JCB digger, digging a grave for him a full six feet deep, so that he can remain there, undisturbed for ever.

sorry to hear this, Brian... Its always a sad time...

ive got a big picture of my old dog staring at me from the wall, and his box of ashes in the cabinet.

Youll say to yourself "We cant get another one....." or "Maybe in a year or two"

But then youll see someone you know has had pups... or the local rescue has an appeal to rehome their stock

When our current dog gets a bit older (7 now) we've talked about taking on retired guide dogs

The death of a pet is as traumatic as losing a person you love. Every time it happens I say 'never again' but after a period of grieving we always get another one.

Well, stubborn to the end, like he's always been, Max held out until about 7.30am this morning. I sat with him for an hour between 4 and 5am, my wife did the same from 6 to 7, and he was gone when we surfaced at 8.
He's lying here in front of me, head held high, eyes wide open, legs straight, looking for all the world like he was standing focusing on something way in the distance, then just fell over onto his side. RIP, Max, the most faithful dog we've ever had, always free to go wherever he liked, but never leaving the property, and my wife's constant shadow for a month short of 17 years.

So sorry mate.

Maybe not in your thoughts yet, but any food, even open bags… unused bedding, bowls or toys…
Would be appreciated being donated to local rescue kennels

That is, if you’re not planning on getting another dog soon
