Hi all,

We are due to have out stairs and landing plastered and while prepping today (removing handrail, etc) I also removed an old electrical shower switch box. We had our bathroom done last year and they removed the old electric shower and put in a mains shower but the old switch box remained in place on the landing.

I took the box off today and there is a lot of wiring that remains and appears to still be live! I'm not sure what to do with it - can I just cut the wires back and tape over ends and then plaster over? One set of wires is chased into the wall with the white trunking and the other comes straight out but not sure where either run to.

If I get an electrician involved how would they resolve it?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Once safely disconnected, I would remove the cables back to the ceiling and or floor void. The cable with brown/blue wires has not been recessed very deeply into the wall. If you are having the walls skimmed, it would make a better job with that removed. Incidentally which of the two cables, did you think was still live?

What I was getting at is that you must of pulled those cables through that back box not knowing if the cables were live or not . Pulling them out of there is no easy task , even if one was taped up before you removed it.
You must of realized that this was a very dangerous thing to do , as you are giving the impression that you still do not know the cables are live.
