Had a call out a couple of hours ago to go and check a house that had been damaged by a fire!

What was this?

[ElectriciansForums.net] What was it?
 
Going by the two copper wires at the top I'd say it was electrical but more than that I couldn't guess. Is that the thing that started the fire or was it something that suffered collateral heat damage?
