Took a call from a customer today that has an issue with lighting in one of their flats. Not a problem but he then mentioned that he also wanted me to quote to resolve issues found during recent EICR. One C2 of many was a lack of CPC in the lighting circuit. Would you repair a problem with the lighting whilst a C2 is still outstanding ?

what council workers was they? I didn't know council workers was allowed to search your van? if i got stopped at side of road by someone who just said i work for council i wouldn't be allowing him to search my van.

Think you'll find they would of been waste enforcement officers, employed by a London Council etc, or the Environment Agency (England & Wales). They have certain powers to issue fixed penalty notices.

As responsible contractors we all should have a Waste Carriers Licence anyway.

As a responsible businessman first and foremost, I'm not going to pay a government agency for the privilege of transporting the waste from electrical work carried-out in customer's homes to a recycling centre.

Once upon a time I would have had no objection to providing this service as a courtesy customer service free of charge. But removal of waste is now the customer's responsibility, not mine.

it took 5 minutes, cost ÂŁ0 and never needs to be renewed.

Nor is the previous poster, unless you class 5 minutes time as a cost?

He is based in England, I'm in Scotland. I don't have the option of a free 'lower-tier' licence. I have to pay SEPA a ÂŁ210 registration fee if I want to transport waste.

Think thats the equivalent of the upper tier licence in England & Wales, which is ÂŁ299.99.

Lower tier licence is free, if you only transport waste you produce yourself, like a gardeners grass cuttings. If the gardener took away damaged slabs, or fences, he would need the upper tier licence.

I got mine for the incidentals, like packaging from products and cut off's of new cables.

PS and for the crisp packets in your example!

That is just annoying, i can see they would want a self funding register of who's carrying waste for their own business, but the cost shouldn't really be more than the cost of a driving licence or passport at the most.
