Evening all, need your opinions on something.

Basically I was employed on a day rate by another electrician. Im NICEIC registered so employer passed me the odd periodic inspection here and there which bulked up my earnings which was nice.

In the time working for him we started a bigish job which he said will need certifying on completion. I was there for all of the 1st fix period and saw everything go in. All of a sudden I had my own jobs come in and i decided to put them priority as I could earn more money.

I did a bit of second fix but the majority was done by about 4 other sparks. Now the job is finished and the guv is asking me to certify it.

I Did a test of install and it came up ok except for some small problems which i put right.

Now im thinking why should i give install cert as i wasnt there for whole install and theres a few things im not happy with like shaver points over bath room basin and even on top of bath tub.

The consumer unit is also located in a small room with the gas boiler and incoming water supply and there is a strong smell of gas in there.... eek

What would you do in this situation.

well, you 1st fixed it. can you not check 2nd fix and if satisfied it's all OK ( rectify any non-compliances 1st) , test and issue EIC?

No one likes periodics, especially on a new build. And they probably see it like anyone can issue periodic.

They made alot of changes through out the job inc moving bathrooms around. I opened a couple of light fittings per room and found brown core of a 3core+earth cable with a perm live and no connector, so it was dangling within fitting.

Ive got a bad feeling about it. Ive even been offered a very high payment to do eic.

I think im goin to steer clear of this one

Sounds to me that there are 3 different things going on here:
1) Electrical certification
2) Building Regs certification (part p)
3) whether or not the job is good to go.

A) If you weren't the contracting party with the builder/client/whoever then the Part P registration is not your responsibility whatever else goes on.
B) Fix whatever you feel needs doing, make a bit of cash on the job.
C) Issue an Installation cert based on it being a modification not a new, records not available. Any departures duly noted.

I do not see any problem in doing what telectrix says... fix the problems and issue an EIC, take the money and run.

The arguement is you did the first fix, finally rectified the problems and you know it's safe, then why not do a EIC?
