Have went to see a job for a friend of a friend who had polish workman in and done all sorts.
I have seen on alot of the existing sockets they have fed 2-3 spurs from them. I advised them that this is not allowed but as floors wall ect are all finished it would be hard to run cables. Could the fuse be lowered from 32amp to 20amp? Zs is not too high, rcd fitted.
cheers

Serves him right. You get what you pay for. He should have got a qualified bloke such as yourself in the first place.. I hope you sting him for his inept attitude towards using idiots who dont understand that there are right and wrong ways to do things, and cheapest is not usually the best way.

Cheers..........Howard

do you mean they have spured off a socket on the ring main to 2 or 3 socket outlet spurs?, as in a spur off a spur off a spur?
no they have added 3 sockets off i socket so 5 cables in one socket!!
So lowering the circuit breaking should protect the cables?, obviously this is not the best way to sort it but it saves them lifting new floors

Are the sausage rolls registered? if so report them to whichever CPS operator they are with. If not report them to trading standards or get them back to do the job correctly at their own expense.

According to appendix 15 in the BGB, as long as a spur consisted of only 1 single or double socket, then it was acceptable to be unfused? Not that I agree with it as you could potentially have 2 x 6 way extension leads plugged into each socket, but does it say anywhere that this is limited to only X amount per circuit?

Seems like a stupid way of doing it but does it comply?

Of course it does not comply it's as rough as a badger's backside! How could anyone with any degree of training even consider that it would

I think you will find that the standard the sockets are made to only allow 3 x 2.5mm conductors per terminal. Or have they used a chock block?

I would also be concerned about all the stuff you can't see, dose any of the work come under part P?

I'm not sticking up for the guy, I thought I made that clear in the post, but if it comply's, then the OP's question 'what would you do'? would be 'what can you do'?

Technically each spur is only under load from 1 socket (single or double) which is why I asked the question using BGB as reference. Of course its rough as a badgers arse, i agree!

I would also be extremely concerned at what else they have been up to.A full inspection and test would possibly find some faults but as said above you won't know what is hidden away in walls and ceilings etc... As far as the 5 cables into one socket. Not a regulation against being a rough bugger is there?Should be.Shouldn't need to derate the breaker as still 3 separate spurs

Power accessory terminals are now made to accommodate 10sq mm, ...It used to be 12sq mm Think about it, 3X 4mm or 2x 4mm and 2.5mm conductors on a 4mm final ring circuit....
