Hi,

Went to do an EICR today on a property to rent out, the sister of the homeowner was there, I said wheres the fuse box, its not obvious....

I looked high and low, everywhere, then thought, hmm I wonder if its in here...

Anyway, the outcome was, I walked away and said you need a new CU and moving etc along with your meters moving so given them a quote for that instead.

CUSTOMER: Why are you taking photos?
ME: So that I can plaster them all over the Internet tonight for entertainment.

Frankly, I don't see what your problem is. If the job was always easy, everyone would be doing it. A bit of effort on your part and the "satisfactory" report could be in the post pronto

Reminds me of a friend's new home in Kirk Ireton (Derbyshire) . Having moved in the meter reader called and neither the new owner or the reader knew where it was. Eventually found it at the furthest possible point of a corner base unit …. but the reader was a big fella and he couldn't get far enough into the cupboard to read it. 2 CU's (storage heaters and standard) also in same cupboard. Thankfully my friend realises that if she has a problem this is going to be a major issue so she's already got DNO coming to move meter and local spark lined up to come and rip out storage heater CU and relocate standard one. Makes you wonder what idiots install kitchens over services like this.

Makes you wonder who specified where it was located. Last time I looked in my kitchen for some strange reason someone had put kitchen units in it. Some people get weird ideas.

This is one you can’t blame the kitchen fitter for.

I have done an EICR on a worst one than that, had to wriggle in and out of cupboard all day testing,f ing and blinding at kitchen fitters as a breed.Anyway customer wanted it moved and it ended up going on the other side of house in the hallway cupboard.

In my opinion I would not feel safe working on it as there was no way to safely isolate the board, couldn't even get to pull the fuse.

More often than not, those old boards are missing the covers from the supply side of the main switch too so would have been very dangerous as you could easily touch a terminal.

Not only that, you must know what it's like trying to get conductors in the terminals again on these when there's too many in there as it is.

Oh the other thing, the side panel of the cupboard is blocking access to the case screw on the right, plus those other panels I did give them a good tug about but were not going anywhere.
