Hi,

Went to do an EICR today on a property to rent out, the sister of the homeowner was there, I said wheres the fuse box, its not obvious....

I looked high and low, everywhere, then thought, hmm I wonder if its in here...

Anyway, the outcome was, I walked away and said you need a new CU and moving etc along with your meters moving so given them a quote for that instead.

CUSTOMER: Why are you taking photos?
ME: So that I can plaster them all over the Internet tonight for entertainment.

Well the installations not fine Access for a start and a code 2 for the fuse cover missing on those boards you remove the cover at the base of the fuse carrier is a small hole right onto the bus bar and with all those metal pans etc

I think I can match this one for stupidity if not beat it.

Dist board, service head and meters, including gas meter once lived in a cupboard formed from an alcove. Cupboard was ripped out and alcove boarded over. Kitchen then installed across former alcove leaving the only access to all this equipment by removal of cupboard shelving and cupboard back.

My good buddy here was stuck in that space for a couple hours extending all the cables so we could re-site the board. What did he get as thanks ? a moaning customer bellyaching about not being able to put oven chips on for dinner with the power off.

what do the regs say about this? seems to me you robdogs just try to make up work
no test results--the installation might be fine
who gives a jot where the board/meter is?

Yeah, let's just ignore the loose connections inside the fusebox. Daz

just off topic slightly, but what's the furthest any of you have relocated a db before?
I have a job to go to in a couple of weeks and they want me to shift theirs. its an elderly couple. House was built in 50s, electrics never been touched. Gonna go take a look and do an eicr. There db is currently in kitchen above the doorway and is obviously very high. They want it shifting to a more accessible location. I've only ever moved one about a meter or so before.

if it's over 3m, then you'll probably need to fit a switch fuse and consider the tails. will they need RCD protection to comply with 522.6.101?

See this all the time round our way, a whole holiday chalet site of over 200 chalets is like it, but they are usually in the cupboard and then to the left so you remove the shelves and squeeze past the sink and into the cupboard. Done some remedials on new builds as well where the CU has been put above the downstairs loo as the meter box is on the outside loo wall.
