Hi,

Where can I get these from? I see it says ESC on it, but cant find them...

Anyone know? They seem like a good idea. I saw it the other day whilst changing a board, it would be nice to stick on the front.

I know exactly the intentions behind this label. Mains cupboards are usually rammed with carp of all descriptions. Mop buckets, stacks of toilet rolls, ladders etc, and in domestic cupboards, coats, shoes, boots, hoovers etc.

I have seen a damaged main fuse carrier earlier this month due to a hoover strike, leaving a hole that could fit a child's finger in onto live parts . Damage through not giving appropriate space and consideration to equipment does happen, and can result in immediate danger.

Having said that I would never fit one of these labels myself. You have to credit people with common sense and the ones that don't have any.... well, that's not my lookout. The majority of the time a cluttered mains area is just an inconvenience to me rather than a danger.

I did take this photo last week though while working in a fast food restaurant.... probably the first mains cupboard I have seen in a decade with nothing in it except the distribution equipment....I was pleasantly surprised.

Nowhere for the mice to hide.......it seems.

Jesus, what is it with UK sparks these days?? Why do you feel compelled to cover every inch of a CU/DB with pointless stickers that nobody actually bothers to read or takes any notice of at all?? Now it seems some of you actually go out of your way searching for obscure stickers, ......perhaps to fill that last 2 square inches of exposed CU's exterior surface!!

Forgive them Father for they know not what they do.

If you really want them contact the electricity safety council, they may provide you some for free.I do know they will happily provide you with copies of the safety leaflets they produce to give to your customers.Incidentally the IET also provide those isolation warning labels that you attach to the lock when isolating a circuit.

There’s only one label required, circuit designation discretely hidden under the cover. Anything else is superfluous and an eyesore!

Maybe so, but you'll still fail your yearly assessment if you don't put the required stickers on! Even though it's a poor reason it's reason enough.

I don’t give a damn about what the scams want. They don’t have to look at MY CU every day.
It’s tucked away in an upper corner of the hallway, virtually out of sight. That was until some blithering idiot slapped meaningless labels all over it.
Tell me of any label that will make the CU safer?

I’ve got to have an EICR done sometime this year. If whoever does it puts any stickers on the CU their next port of call will be Queens medical centre.

A lot of the stickers seem pretty pointless IMO, Like the mixed wiring colours one for example. Anyone who is working on the electrics should be competent to safely carry out & test the work anyway.

The reasoning for this label is that younger fully qualified electricians will only have ever worked with the new colours. But yeah, anyone with half a brain could have an hour's session on the old colours squeezed into their course and never have a problem.

Appendix 7 in BS7671 covers this though. It is something we were shown at college, as should every electrical student IMO.

Yeh… about 3 quid for a new switch… But I think there’s too many wires there for you to attempt to change it yourself
