Hi all,
Please don't slate me, saying i should know this already, im asking for advice not a dig.
i have not long started up my new business and have i have just taken on my first big job. im fully qualified and registered with Benchmark. So heres the job, a complete renovation of an old property, on my side and electrical wise its a complete rewire and many additions, outside lighting, LED Bath panel lighting, kitchen Pelmet LED lighting, Testing & Inspecting etc etc. heres the questions,
1- what certificates should i use, due to it being a rewire plus additions.
2- He has first fixed the downstairs ( house is set out as, bedrooms, bathroom downstairs, living room, kitchen upstairs) i would like to dead test the circuits, however without testing each individual piece of cable due to him terminating each cable in the patresses etc, he has not added accessories just terminated the cable. what's your recommendations. ive heard of bad results from using connector blocks and i dont think is good practice, i could be wrong, im asking.
3- The LED in bath panel- the bath panel will be marble, i do not fancy due to my inexperience drilling into a ÂŁ300 piece of marble.
4- He has the power distribution company coming out to move the position of the mains incoming. as currently its down stairs connected to the distribution board, and he wants it moved upstairs, could i not just insert a cut off switch and take the tails to the upstairs, inside regulations, to the the distribution board. saving him a couple of grand. or just let him crack on and waste his money.

If your thinking ive bitten off more than i can chew, maybe your right, but i need to learn and i work is slow so i cant turn it down.
All help is mega appreciated.
cheers guys/girls

Dan

Ok slight change of tone...I am sorry.

Has anyone checked out the benchmark???

It looked seriously expensive but I looked at the requirements to join. I am tired but im sure I just read you only need 17th edition and public liability. With an option of 6084 c&g. Google told me it was energy efficiency qualification. Wtf???
i`v had a quick peek and its just the usual scam crap rubbish....seen one...seen em all...

All the scams ive seen are level 3 nvq.

Good luck tomorrow daniel. Just remember one customer is not worth a career. Your company your rules dont be bullied into something if your gut doesnt trust it. I struggled with that at the start.

I'm ashamed to say it but am NIC DI at present but am upgrading on renewal in a month or so to AC, I feel I'll be a bit more respected possibly then rather than seen as a toy town DI.
the only reason for these schemes existance is so you can self note your work...thats the only benefit they have...and even then if the LABCs up n down this green & pleasant land decided to play ball...then there would be no need for the lieing, cheating scammers that they are....would they....

Hi Dan, sorry but I couldn't be bothered wading through all the responses after readiing your post. If you have been given this advice already I therefore apologise for repeating somebody else's wise words. What you need to do: look up Mickey Mouse certificates on the internet, download one, and sign of the works with signature "Donald Duck". Whatever you do DO NOT put on a traceable address. Best wishes.

Well, in bed and decided. I'm not doing it. Your right and I appreciate your advice, I will stick to my small jobs and keep learning and progressing. Don't run before you can walk as they say. Sorry for being an idiot and rubbing people up the wrong way but your advice paid off. Night all.
