Hi,

I've just took delivery of some GU10 led downlights that I plan to fit in the eaves of the house and hard wire into the mains.

I want a small photocell that will turn mainly the rear ones on once its dark and I've stumbled upon this forum with a few threads that are now a bit out of date.

What would you guys recommend nowadays for the correct cell to deal with the elements and now blow should one of the bulbs go

thanks

terry

Presumably via the fuse board?

How and when do you want them to go out?

Tried reading it a few times, he lost me at mains!!! And mainly!!

edit, sorry meant scared me

Well thanks for the great replys Edd always a smarty lurking on any forum.

As you guys can work out im no electrician it will be my dad doing all the necessary wiring. They are not going to run off a transformer if that's the way to word it.

I just need a reliable photocell and some advice on that would be ideal

What does your dad suggest Terry if he is the electrician!!

I will be looking for them to come on when its dark and stay on until light again. They will be wired to a switch to enable this to be overridden

You seem to have taken offence what is the issue I'm asking for advice not giving it.

i didn't day he was a qualified sparky he just has the ability to do the wiring. I'm sure he could offer some thoughts if I pull off random photocells I've found on google and show him the details but that doesn't make them any use in reality.

I was just looking for some advice from guys that use these things regularly not for everyone to jump
on the bandwagon and dig the new guy.

Anyway thanks Edd I will have a look at what you mentioned

Niglon TS12K would be the bog standard, tried and tested soloution.

you need a photocell that has relay switching, not solid state. most makes will do the job.

No that seems to be what you have done. I simply asked a question, when you said your Dad was doing the wiring I presumed naturally that he was an electrician.
If I said my dad was building me an house then it would be fair of you to presume he was a Builder.

Ok then buddy, you have no intention of helping so take note of where it says please don't post etc etc. I'm not on here to argue the wording just so you can come back with more witty replys rather than just helping

With the greatest respect matey this is the electricians forum, for professional sparkies.... its not the DIY dummies forum.

Sure we do give limited advice, but you will feel short changed if you hoping for a shopping list and a step by step guide

no need to get a strop on. come the vote you may well be on your own anyway.
