What screws do you want to use? If you want a standard metric 3.5mm thread the pitch is 0.6mm. If you want a metric fine 3.5mm it's 0.35mm pitch.

If you need stronger you're probably misusing it. Rather go with a taper tap first and a final tap afterwards. 3.5MM HAND TAPS - 18075 - DRAPER TOOLS

If you drill the correct size hole and use a dab of oil you can use these taps with your battery drill on low speed.
its in stainless steel marvo and the tap i picked up was a cheap terrible brand but i really needed one at the time and it was the only place open.

Any respectable brand of taps will work in stainless 3CR12, 304, 316 etc unless maybe if it's s/s 440 blade grade or similar. Two tap draper set will be fine for general s/steel plate for decorative covers and enclosures.

Might be a bit of a squeeze getting his M3.5 screws in though ;) ;)

File them down a bit!!

It's easy enough to search the same spec tap but with a different size though.

Fact is I'm struggling a bit to see nowadays cos I'm waiting for an eye operation. I'm actually looking at this lappy through a magnifying glass!!

It's ridiculous.

Thanks lads! :)

The daft thing is I used to know those little tricks but somehow seem to have forgotten them - and other things as well - like the other day I decided to fire my Celeica up just to swirl the oil around a bit and couldn't understand why it wouldn't fire up.

I had forgotten about the immobiliser .....
