Whilst doing a maitenance check

Put links between the incoming live terminals so the red links to the adjacent terminal, same with the black but not across all four or bang!!

Found a picture of the wiring arrangement

With nothing connected on terminal 3 the test button is non operational

When you say links I guess you mean an actual dedicated link designed for purpose and not a identical sized piece of cable. Something similar to a buzzbar in a domestic board perhaps.

I've done some drawings

A) shows how it is currently
B) shows how I interpritated how to do it from you post
C)shows how I interpritated not to do it feom your post as there will be a big bang
D)shows how I interpritated UNG post

It should have the correct links but a section of wire will be fine. One piece from red to adjacent terminal another from black to adjacent terminal on the supply side.

Its got me thinking

do you think it's been like that since it was installed or could someone have been inclined to take it out of 3 and put it in to 1 purposely

I've got to check the rcds operate functionally as part of my job and this one didn't work so if it's been wired up so the test button won't work then it can't have ever operated when pressed

I assumed it must have deteriated over time and required a new one but it's looking like it hasn't been connected correctly thanks to the knowledge and guidance I've been given because I wouldnt have known that without it

Because it's not been wired correctly at the top is it still doing it's job and offering protection?

Do the test buttons on the other two work.
Yes the other 2 work @westward10

I'm going to see if I can open them up and have a look at them when I'm next able to

I am wondering in my head though and I don't know if it's going to make sence to anyone

But if the diagram @UNG posted was saying 3 in and 1 out

Could the others say 2 in 3 out or 1 in 2 out for example

Or are they likely to be the same as the diagram for this one which says 3 in 1 out.

If anyone's followed that another question I'm wondering and I don't know why but

Could the diagrame ever say 1 in 1 out 2 in 2 out

Or is there a rule where they have to be offset like the original diagrame showing 3 in 1 out

I've probably made no sense there but I thought I might as well ask what I'm questioning in my head

Seeing as the other two work and assuming they are also four pole you should see different connections.
