MCS Renewables

Passed this abortion in Swanage earlier today :-

[ElectriciansForums.net] Whodunnit ?

Had to stop and take some photos.
Three modules on side of property with rail and brackets not in the ideal position.
Two modules at low level behind a wall.
wiring installed loose in guttering.
According to a neighbour it took about twelve days !!!!!!
one inverter - one tracker ?

We know who it was and by Monday so will your MCS registration body and REAL as we have written to both with recorded delivery.

You should post less on here and hang your head in shame as this is the sort of ****e that gives us all a bad name .

Find the post abit out of order to be honest. Is the installation dangerous in anyway or just poorly designed? If its dangerous I do apologise and you have every right to name and same to the bods. But if its just a poor design the companys workmanship will rub off in the end and nobody will use them. I don't do this type of work btw.

Ha looking at that photo it was like spot the panel, there's one... there's another.... and another.. Brilliant..

Reminds me of the guy who wanted to boost capacity by installing a couple more on his tin shed.....

are the ones on the side definately PV, not thermal, they look a different size, or is it just an illusion? the overhang is way too much on the ones on the side. Not sure whats going on with those on the garage, a bit bizzare!

The ones on the front, well, I would have thought the two vertical ones could have gone horizontal but it's hard to say. IN fact the left hand vertical looks as though 2 horizontals would have fitted.

If your refering also to the scattering of panels, maybe the customer insisted. I quoted on a job a while back, 11 panels in 2 rows, but the customer insisted he wanted 16. I explained where those would have to go and the consequences of that re shading etc but he wanted them so we did it. The shading on the bottom right is less problematic than it may look and the system is performing very well but I wasn't too pleased with the visual appearance, but he was delighted! The inverter by the way went in his music room, complete with conduit etc. I showed him lots of piccies of what to expect, but thats what he wanted and again, he's delighted. He did say he would get it boxed in!
At the end of the day you can advise, but it's the customers choice!

I agree with Moggy1968
The prospect pre December 2011 of a possible 10-16% ROI drove a lot of people to insist on maximising at any cost, I dont think we will see this so much anymore with the lower tariff thou, I did a few quotes where I was asked to do what I wouldnt normaly do hence my reluctance didnt get me those jobs which I am not bothered about.

Especially the chap who wanted 16 Sharp 250's on his roof, after surveying the roof we could fit max 12 and even then two of those would be in permanant shade. Also recomended alternatives to Sharp, But no! He had another quote from a 'big' firm who had promissed he could have 4KWP of Sharp. Even going through the dimensions in simplistic form to show him, he regarded us as not knowing our trade. Must drive past and see what kind of eyesore he has.

We had one like this locally. I told them they couldn't get the system size in that they wanted but they were adamant. We drove past it a couple of months back and the panels are up to the ridge and in line with the gutter. I often wonder if they still think they made the right decision. I'll drive past one day when we get a lot of rain and see if the gutters are now redundant.

I don't blame the customer. Ultimately, picking a firm to carry out your install is a gamble and they never know what they're going to get until they turn up on site.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people insist on the maximum and not a fraction less, for fear that they'll "miss out".
It's amazing to see the lack of respect for their property's appearance and the owner's lack of thought to how a would-be house buyer might see it.

For cosmetic reasons I went with 3.75kWp on my house even though - with some creativity - there was probably room to squeeze a few more panels (or even a different make) to get 4kWp.

I should add that, due to the picture being taken from the middle of the lawn, the perspective makes the panels appear closer to the ridge and the gutter than they really are.

The panels - although the perspective makes them look almost square - are 1.67m high x 1m wide (for a total area of 3x1.67m= 5m x 5x1m =5m) and the roof is about 6.5m wide and 6m high - so there's about 0.5m between the panels and the ridge or the gutter.
