Went to a house today that had a CU change, occupier said their landlord had done the CU change to get registered with NICEIC on inspection the cables obviously didn't reach the new CU so they were extended with connectors wrapped in tape. I called LABC they said not our problem contact NIC did that they said installation met their requirements no further action unless occupier makes a formal complaint. What is it all about?
I understand what you are saying mate, and I agree with you totally. However what is the law on this, if they had used them new fancy wagos???

wagos are fine, but for god's sake, enclose in a box of some sort.

The thing is though mate, just what the hell do you have to do to be to in contravention of requirements these days??? How long before we read a post where two mains cables have just been twisted together....

but, as professionals, we work to BS7671, not some jumped up niceic daft ideas. they will only act if it is good for their image. they don't give a monkeys as long as they're raking in membership fees every year.

i would have used brown and blue tape ( if i'd run out of red and black, that is )

It does amaze me some times what people will do , i have to admit i will lower a consumer unit at a drop of a hat if it is in an elderly persons house where they cannot reach without the use of a ladder , but if you do use connectors they as has been said so many times on this thread they must be enclosed , 100 x 75mm trunking ideal for this hole in the back pull all cables through hole extend using wagos ,crimps etc put the lid on job done , and yes that does comply as you need a screwdriver to prize the cover off , and for those who want to save a few quid , if you use single compartment dado trunking and have any offcuts these can make ideal boxes for extending cables for CDU's
