" guy gets electricuted says he was Following advice given on the internet"

why not just respond to the posts you can help with then?

as you rightly say not everyone is as clever as us but it wont stop them trying with or without our help and if their life is worth less than my callout charge thats their problem

Amberleaf went one better, there's 57 pages of info here for free :)

57 non interactive pages, people don't spend much time reading these days assuming they can, when they can post a question and have the answer fed to them by someone who has probably read the 57 pages.

As we are all aware a lot of people struggle to help themselves these days

If they can use the forum search tool they it will save them reading 56 of the 57 pages unnecessarily. :)

Maybe all forum members / electricians should be issued with a set of simple "first ask" questions, like:

1. Have you had work done recently / done any decorating recently?
2. Have you plugged something new in?
3. Have you checked the fuse in the plug?
4. Have you changed the lamp? (not bulb, they grow in the ground).
5. Is your shower tray leaking?

Maybe the Schemes or the Colleges should distribute these to the electricians when they sign up.
Or maybe sparks should just use their brains, like Mogga et al.

We do this in IT all the time - is it just affecting you or all users / when did the problem first start / have you tried restarting your computer / is the printer on and plugged in / is YOUR internet connection working?

It's like in the tv show "The IT Crowd" when they had their answerphone message getting the user to turn it off and back on again and then it worked...

Our IT helpdesks first question is normaly "What button did you press? followed by "How far did you drop it? "

It also amazes me how a ring rcd tripping after they have plugged in a new washing machine followed by diagnosis of Washing machines at fault is followed by client saying "It cant be my washing machine its brand new!!!!"
