Discuss Wire sizes when adding RCD to consumer unit in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

I saw one the other week where they had used the earth bar as the second neutral bar. The CPCs were joined in connector blocks. Was great.

He's happy ,got an answer and off he goes with no idea of the reasoning behind it or the knowledge level of the person who answered it (no offence). It does make you wonder.

you'll need the flexibility of tri-rated cable. crimps on the ends as well.

I needed to butcher a couple of ready made cables recently, but didn't crimp them... What sort of crimps should I be using Telectrix?

Alternatively, can I get the soldering iron out and tin the ends?

"How much!!! - for the crimping tool" .... got a feeling he wont have one ....as been said already its cheaper to buy a split board all in than waste time and money converting an existing board.

Pehaps but a better job would be achieved by this:

Oldtimer,
There is every chance my quals are higher than yours.... so be careful.
The point of a forum is to ask rather than mess up then ask is it not.
To satisfy your ego, i havent touched a house for over 10years and my electrical work is going to be inspected shortly so thought i would do some homework first. The board is new but came naked so im building it up, it has split neutrals.

Thank you to everyone else who has helped.

Teejay I dont have an ego to bruise and never will have and fine no doubt you could be better qualified than me but what I cannot figure out is that you don't seem to be applying it to the job in hand as experience tells me that you are trying to re-invent the wheel here because your options are to either replace the CU or buy a CU and rip the guts out of it so that you can utilise the parts as its cheaper than buying separates either way someone of your no doubt superior knowledge should know but then again as they say up here "He/She is that intelligent they have no common sense"

Also if you want to learn on here park your dummy instead of spitting it out

Well you may or may not be better qualified mate but with that attitude I'll bet you're a joy to work with. Couple that with the fact that a lot of people on here, Oldtimer included, have a great deal of respect for each other which has been earned and my money is on you not being among us much longer. You do, of course, have the chance to modify your approach and the decision on whether to take that is solely down to you

I confess it, i'm an electrician and I don't have a bootlace ferrule tool! i just give em a little squeeze with the cutters to stop em falling off and then put them in the terminal and the terminal screw crimps just fine for the job!
