Discuss Wiring for upstairs lighting in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

For God's sake someone help him, I've seen people giving out much more involved answers to people who profess to be sparks who haven't got a clue about electrical installation, like what size? what sort of? how do I? What is? lol

Well, go on then.... help him...... Daz

There are many things that influence an electrical system, but extreme conditions such as heat and cold have the biggest impact. Other things to consider include flammability, and this is especially important in the petrochemical industry and food industry
Thanks.

That's weird, I was just going to say the exact same thing. Daz

Thanks - This is exactly how I wired it - but the switch didn't work - hence the reason why I asked if the switch was blown. Pity I didn't realise that it had to be wired back to the nuclear reactor via the fudpit box Thanks taking the time to put up the diagram.for the diagramView attachment 18346

Wish people would just google. The info is out there. Just some choose not to think outside the box.[/QUOTE]

Ive just read over flameport website with a coffee, and what a fantastically informative and simple resource for this sort of information. If these DIY crackers just browsed the net for for 5 minutes to find something like that, then not only would they walk away with a reusable resource for the future AND learn something (shock horror), but wouldn't have to go through the process of finding a forum, irritating people, and generally being kicked up the ar$e for being stupid. (not calling you stupid Eddie, i am generalising substantially across the majority of posts that come in from people expecting a hand out of how to tips).

Print these pages off from that website Eddie, make a small folder, then down the line should you get stumped again, have a look through your notes - and your away. Some sound advice on there.

No offence taken Wade - I'll look out my folder - I'm sure that I'm better at filing than I am at DIY!
The switch was the problem not the wiring. Now replaced, fixed and working. I think I went to the wrong forum.

Thanks to all who took the trouble to reply

Safely isolate the circuit using your approved voltage indicator and proving unit,
Expose the cables at the fitting, and remove switch from wall.
Disconnect cables at fitting.
Disconnect cable at switch.
Join cables at switch together.
Using your multimeter set on the ohms scale check for continuity at the light fitting until you get a very low reading just above 0.00 ohms, you have now identified the switch cable.
Put red/brown into loop, and black/blue into L.
Put other cables back into light fitting, red/brown into loop, black/blue into N.
separate the cables at the switch and refit switch.
De isolate circuit.
light will now work fine.

Cheers..............Howard
